This is the first book to systematically evaluate e-voting from the
wider European perspective. It focuses on the European experience,
thereby raising key issues at the heart of the social sciences,
legal scholarship and technology studies in a penetrating and
interdisciplinary manner. It coincides with a crucial juncture for
European integration in which the Convention on the Future of
Europe and the 2004 Intergovernmental Conference will discuss
measures to further democratize the EU.
To what extent does the constitution-making process matter? By
focusing on three central aspects of constitution-making; the
nature of the constitution-making body, how it reaches decisions
and the way in which a new constitution is legitimized and by
examining a wide range of case studies, this international
collection from expert contributors provides answers to this
crucial question. Bridging the gap between law and political
science this book draws together divergent research on the role of
constitution making in conflict resolution, constitutional law and
democratization and employs a wide variety of qualitative and
quantitative methods to unfold and explore the political frameworks
of the states affected. Comparative analysis is used to investigate
potential causal chains between constitution-making processes and
their outcomes in terms of stability, conflict resolution and
democracy. By focusing on both procedure and context, the book
explores the impact of constitution-making procedures in new and
established states and unions in Europe, South America and Africa.

Why have referendums on European integration proliferated since the
1970s? How are referendums accommodated within member states'
constitutional orders and with what impact on the European
integration process? What is the likely institutional impact of
referendums on the future of the European integration process?
Drawing on an interdisciplinary approach, these are just some of
the fundamental questions addressed in this book. The central
thesis is that the EU is faced with a 'direct democratic dilemma',
which is compounded by the EU's rigid constitutional structure and
a growing politicisation of the referendum device on matters
related to European integration. Referendums and the European Union
discusses how this dilemma has emerged to impact on the course of
integration and how it can be addressed.
This book contains contributions in the area of Network Science,
presented at the 14th International Conference on Complex Networks
(CompleNet), 24-28 April, 2023 in Aveiro, Portugal. CompleNet is an
international conference on complex networks that brings together
researchers and practitioners from diverse disciplines—from
sociology, biology, physics, and computer science—who share a
passion to better understand the interdependencies within and
across systems. Â CompleNet is a venue to discuss ideas and
findings about all types networks, from biological, to
technological, to informational and social. It is this
interdisciplinary nature of complex networks that CompleNet aims to
explore and celebrate. The audience of the work are professionals
and academics working in Network Science, a
highly-multidisciplinary field.

Conversion is a main theological theme in the Lukan corpus. Since
much attention has been paid to the issue in Acts, the present work
shows how the evangelist also conveys his theological emphasis on
conversion in his gospel through material either unique to it or
that Luke has edited to this purpose. Attention is paid to the
different issues involved in Luke's emphasis on conversion and an
attempt is made to place them within the larger spectrum of his
theology. The grouping of all these elements provides the basis for
constructing Luke's paradigm of conversion.

The European Union and E-Voting investigates one of the latest
potential changes in the 'technology of democracy' - electronic
voting. It explores how it may impact on traditional mechanisms of
democratic participation, raising issues that go to the very core
of contemporary governance. Among the many questions tackled are
the implications of introducing e-voting for European Parliamentary
elections and its possible impact, not just on the quantity aspects
of electoral turnout but also on the quality dimension of
democratic participation. The contributors assess e-voting's
compatibility with existing legal and constitutional principles and
how to best design new online voting systems in order to ensure
both security and convenience of use. Furthermore, the prospects
for institutional innovation stemming from the introduction of
e-voting and other e-democracy techniques are also addressed.
Besides enriching the literature with new ideas at a time in which
the European integration process is entering a distinctly more
overt political phase, this volume also provides fruitful insights
for the development of e voting and e-democracy across the world.
related to the possible introduction of electronic voting for
future European Parliamentary elections. It will be of interest to
all students and researchers of elections and the European Union.
